Role of the Return to Work (RTW) Coordinator (Vic) | Nov 18 & 19 (Blended)

Helping injured workers return to work requires the support of employers and skilled RTW Coordinators. Under the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2023, employers have an obligation to appoint a RTW Coordinator with the appropriate seniority and competence (knowledge, skills and experience) to perform their role. This two-day course helps provide participants with the tools and knowledge to help injured workers who are certified medically fit to return to work in a timely, safe, and sustainable manner.

This two-day course covers the following topics:

•    The role of the RTW Coordinator
•    The RTW process 
•    Legal obligations of both the employer and injured worker in the RTW process 
•    Understanding the steps employers must take following a work-related injury
•    Identifying, negotiating and offering suitable employment options and developing effective RTW plans 
•    Monitoring and supporting the progress of an injured worker's recovery 
•    Communicating effectively with the injured worker, their treating practitioner and other stakeholders involved in the RTW process, including Allianz. 

This course has been developed in accordance with the requirements of the WIRC Act 2013 and is endorsed by WorkSafe Victoria.

Recommended for: Newly appointed RTW coordinators or other employees that have responsibility for managing an injured worker. This training may also be beneficial to line managers, supervisors and workplace health and safety representatives. If your RTW cooordinator completed this course more than three years ago, it is recommended that they consider retaking the course as a refresher.

Prerequisites:: A general understanding of workers compensation policies and procedures.

Course delivery: Self-paced, interactive eLearning component 5-7 hours and instructor-led sessions 2 x 2.5 hours as detailed below:

AM session: Self-paced pre-work 8:00 am - 9:45 am followed by a live Zoom session 10:00am - 11:30am.   PM Session: Self-paced pre-work 1:00 pm - 2:45 pm.  Followed by a live Zoom session 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm.

Dispute management and legal claims (VIC)

 

This course will provide participants with an insight into complex legal processes that regularly occur in workers compensation claims and practical tips for employers involved in a dispute or a legal process. The following topics are covered: 

  • Relevant workers compensation legislation 
  • Types of issues and matters that can lead to a dispute or legal process 
  • End-to-end process and outcomes of various workers compensation legal matters 
  • Management of complex legal matters

Note: Each jurisdiction in Australia has its own workers compensation scheme and legislation, which is relevant to that state or territory. This course covers the workers compensation scheme and legislation in the jurisdiction it's conducted.

Recommended for: Payroll officers, HR officers, nominated WorkCover and return to work coordinators, or anyone responsible for the administration and management of workers compensation claims.
