MyJourney: Supporting workers with their recovery and return-to-health journey

The road to recovery after experiencing work-related illness or injury can be impacted by many factors – biological, psychological and social. Many existing health interventions are based on a biomedical model of diagnosis and treatment, failing to consider the role psychosocial factors play in determining the success of someone’s recovery.

Suitable duties in return to work (RTW)

A suitable duties plan is a critical part of the return to work process. We all know that returning to work safely and as soon as possible after a work-related injury is the best outcome for the injured worker and the employer

Returning to work may not mean the injured worker returning to their usual duties. Depending on the nature and severity of their injury, an injured worker may need a graduated approach to return to work and suitable duties. The employer's relationship with the injured worker is a key determining factor in a successful return to work.

In this course, we discuss the importance of communication and how this can impact a successful return to work as well as the following topics:

•    Why provide suitable duties
•    The role of the RTW Coordinator
•    The employer's legal obligations concerning employee RTW
•    Making appropriate decisions
•    What to do when there is a lack of suitable duties or suitable duties are unable to be identified.

Recommended for: People who have completed the 2 day RTW Coordinator course and would like a refresher or people new to returning injured workers back into the workplace.

Course delivery: This course is delivered by a facilitator-led webinar.
