Malaysia has consistently topped the charts in data centre capacity in ASEAN, with 504.8 MW live installed capacity as of December 2024 and another 1.3GW capacity planned. This will mean that close to 5% of Malaysia’s electricity generated will be consumed by data centres. There is thus an urgent focus to ensure that future data centres are built to exacting sustainability standards and existing capacity is upgraded to be even more energy efficient.
