Matt started his career in the charity sector with the Cancer Council Victoria in 2007, continuing with the Irish Cancer Society in 2012 and he joined the American Cancer Society in January 2016 to take on the newly created Regional Director role, looking after Europe and the Middle East. Matt is now the Strategic Director of Global Relay For Life. This is a network of 34 national cancer charities who take a franchise of a licenced event.
Since graduating from the University of Leeds in his home country of the United Kingdom, Matt has lived and worked in 7 different countries in Europe, Asia and Australasia. The bulk of this work has been in the volunteer sector, he has also been a soccer coach and an English teacher.
Matt currently lives in Spain with his wife and 2 kids, he speaks Spanish and is learning French.

We will take a look at the origins of the Relay For Life program and what drove its growth making it the worlds biggest event to fight cancer.
Matt Lewis (Strategic Director of Global Relay For Life) will share the factors that determine the success of these events both in terms of the event itself and also in terms of organizational volunteer growth.
This session will look at the types of community that this event has been successful in and discuss how we can redefine community and make Relay work in those environments – education and workplace.
