Towards 2030 – Reconnecting with the Region

The New Colombo Plan (NCP) is a signature initiative of the Australian Government that aims to lift knowledge of the Indo-Pacific in Australia by supporting Australian undergraduates to study and undertake internships in the region. We are excited to welcome you to the New Colombo Plan National Summit, bringing together Scholars, NCP Alumni and NCP supporters and community.

This is an occasion to celebrate the NCP Community – create and broker new connections, reconnect, and continue to grow and nurture the opportunities with the Indo-Pacific region.

The NCP National Summit will explore how NCP Alumni can continue to develop and utilise their Indo-Pacific connections, skills and experience to support a reconnected region. This exploration will take place under three streams, outlined below.

Stream 1
Australia and Global Challenges

This stream will explore the nature of existing and emerging global challenges, and how NCP Scholars and Alumni can use their Indo-Pacific knowledge and connections to lead a new generation of Australians collaborating across the globe.

Sessions will address climate change, education for development, disaster risk and preparedness, the global economy and young Australians and the Pacific.

Stream 2
Opportunities and Actions

In this stream we will look at the opportunities – and actions – for Australia in maintaining and growing our relationship with the region.

Sessions will explore doing business, advocacy and altruism, careers in the Indo-Pacific and personal identity and Indo-Pacific Connections.

Stream 3
NCP Alumni

The third stream will look at how NCP Scholars and Alumni can focus on their personal development to meet the shared challenges explored across the Summit.

Sessions will focus on NCP Alumni and the positive impact of staying connected. Topics will include STEM and the NCP,  alumni driving youth dialogue and diplomacy, student mobility and engagement and keeping the connections alive.

Attending the event

How do I accept my invitation to attend?

Simply complete your registration via the online form on this website.

Who can attend the event?

The 2022 National Summit is open to the NCP Alumni Community, NCP Scholars and invited guests.

What if I cannot attend in person?

Key plenary sessions  of the 2022 National Summit will be available online via live broadcast. Please select the "Virtual Attendee" attendance option when completing your registration.

Do I need to download or install any information to be able to attend this event via the live broadcast?

No. You do not need to download or install any software to participate. You only need to have access to the internet.

Is a webcam required for the live broadcast stream?

No. Video chat is not required in order to participate.

How do I log into the live broadcast of the Summit?

The live broadcast will be streamed directly onto the Summit website, a broadcast page will be visible on the day of the Summit. Please note only the main plenary sessions will be live streamed.

Who do I contact if I have troubleshooting issues on the day for the live broadcast

Where will the event be held?

The 2022 National Summit will be held in the Cultural Centre, Kambri at the Australian National University (ANU) and Networking Reception will be held at the Great Hall, Australian Parliament House.

For NCP Scholars attending the Pre Departure Training (PDT) events either side of the Summit, this will be held on level 6 of the Marie Reay Teaching Building (Building 155), in Kambri, ANU.

Can I invite my colleagues to attend the event?

The 2022 National Summit is open to the NCP Alumni Community, NCP Scholars and invited guests. If they have not received an invitation to register, please refer them to the NCP Administration and Support Services Team: ncp@scopeglobal.com

What is the dress code for the event? Do I need a mask?

Smart casual attire recommended.

As a requirement of the ANU, all attendees will be required to wear a mask while indoors.

Travel

Will there be a transfer upon my arrival and departure?

Transfers will be arranged for arrivals into Canberra, and upon your departure to your home state after the Summit.  Transfer times to and from Canberra Airport will be provided in advance, with your accommodation bookings.

Can I extend my stay?

Extensions of travel duration will only be accepted in extenuating circumstances.

What expenses are covered?

Do I need a travel permit to enter Canberra?

Please review the ACT Government Health Advice and the advice from your home state or territory when deciding to travel. The ACT Health Advice is available: https://www.covid19.act.gov.au/

Do I need travel insurance for this trip?

Insurance cover for participating Scholars remains as per the NCP Travel Insurance Handbook. The only exception is the fact that the PDT and Summit is occurring within Australia rather than outside of Australia.

Scholars are advised to note the following: any medical costs covered in whole or in part by Medicare are not claimable under the policy.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are eligible for “Medicare” – Australia:

It is important to note that insurers are prohibited by law from paying certain medical expense in Australia. These include those outlined under the National Health Act 1953 and the Australian Health Insurance Act 1973 or any other subsequent legislation which is enacted - (i.e. Medicare).

It is illegal for any company to cover the gap of costs for treatment received as a private patient in a medical facility and the refund provided by Medicare. In general, treatments received in a public hospital are fully covered by Medicare.

All other travellers, including NCP Alumni, should consider their individual circumstances and the need to obtain travel insurance.
