The theme Rural New Zealand, Exploring Triumph over Adversity has been chosen to reflect the rural communities of New Zealand and their importance in providing food and fibre to our country along with celebrating many New Zealanders who have amazing triumph over adversity journeys to share.

Tawera Nikau

Tawera is one of New Zealand’s most successful professional athletes. He made his name in the highly competitive world of rugby league. In 2004 he had his right leg amputated due to complications from injuries suffered in a motorbike accident. Tawera's life story is truly inspiring and motivational. He is a living example of someone who refuses to quit no matter how hard he is hit.
 

Cam Calkoen

Born with cerebral palsy, Cam pushed through his physical limitations and set his own goals which saw him representing New Zealand in athletics.
 

Drew Kessler

Rotary International Representative

Rotary Club of North Rockland,

New York

Drew joined Rotary in 2001, at the age of 20. He went on to serve as President of the Rotary Club of North Rockland at age 25 – at that time the youngest president in the club’s than 80-year history. At age 32, he served as District Governor for Rotary District 7210. 

Drew is Senior Vice President of the Commercial Real Estate division at M&T Bank, where he manages a large loan portfolio of real estate and commercial ventures with major businesses in the New York City area.

 

Goldie Hamilton

 National Manager at Anxiety New Zealand Trust (www.anxiety.org.nz). Goldie started as a volunteer on their free 24/7 national 0800 ANXIETY Helpline (0800 269 4389) in 2013, and since 2016 has been training and managing their helpline team.

Goldie also provides nationwide workshops and coordinates the Helpline Collaboration Group Aotearoa NZ. She has a Masters in Health Psychology and prior experience in healthcare and training and managing volunteers.

 

Nadine Shine

Nadine founded the Big Fella Foundation - a community mental health organisation - in memory of her Husband Justin.

Mike Seawright

Mike Seawright left the corporate world for conflict zones and found humanity at its best. Mike Seawright is founder of ReliefAid and lives in Auckland.

Since leaving the corporate world behind some 20 years ago, Mike has been delivering humanitarian assistance to families living in some of the world’s worst conflict zones, such as, Iraq, Yemen, South Sudan and most recently in Syria and the Ukraine. 

 

Jim Bolger, ONZ

Jim Bolger,  was the Prime Minister of New Zealand from 1990 to 1997 and has had a noteworthy career in politics for over 20 years.

He led the New Zealand National Party for 12 years and achieved the biggest electoral victory in New Zealand history in the election of 1990. He was also the first Prime Minister elected under the MMP electoral system.

 

 

Lisa Tamati

Ex professional endurance athlete, author, documentary maker & serial entrepreneur, Lisa Tamati is a speaker with a powerful story and life changing messages to share.

The 2023 Rotary District 9930 Annual Conference will be held at the Les Munro Centre, Te Kuiti from 21 – 23 April 2023. With the objective to support regional, rural New Zealand, Te Kuiti is a central location to get to and the Les Munro Centre is a unique conference and function venue that combines business with the opportunity to support a community that represents manaakitanga and generous hospitality.

The surrounding areas of Te Kuiti will provide our delegates with the opportunity to explore places like Waitomo Caves, Otorohonga and experience new adventures like the Timber Trail.
