FCVic is thrilled to invite you to the annual FCVic Conference, taking place in Melbourne, 9 -11 October at the elegant Pullman Albert Park.
This year's theme, "Fearless and Forthright" underscores our commitment to boldly confronting challenges and advocating for integrity and transparency in the hardship sector.
It is a statement that speaks to the role of financial counsellors, the community sector, to leaders in hardship response in industry hardship teams, and to an ideal for the empowered consumer. Financial counselling in Victoria is once again under pressure as the profession grapples with the cost-of living crisis and the changing face of hardship.
At our Summit in March, we explored these issues to develop a shared understanding and practical way for us all to respond. But in our discussion about a response, we also noted how resilient and courageous vulnerable consumers are, and that financial counsellors, the community sector, and leaders in industry hardship teams all have a role in fearlessly speaking up about unfair practices and forthrightly advocating for better rules.
“Fearless and Forthright” represents a core set of the principles and values of financial counselling, especially relevant given the impacts of the cost-of-living crisis, the pressures that financial counsellors are under, and how they advocate for and support vulnerable clients. It shows what consumers can be when they are supported with the necessary tools and coaching to be in control of their own circumstances as effective self-advocates.
Finally, it speaks to the role of all of us working with people experiencing hardship to speak truth to power and stand up for fairness and justice in our communities
