Breakfast

Wednesday March 26 - 7.00am - 8.00am

Sponsored by Elanco Animal Health

Topic: Zolvix Plus: introducing monepantel and the ‘orange’ drench class for cattle

Presenter: Dr Nicholas Rolls, Technical Services Veterinarian, Elanco Australasia

Presenter: Nick graduated from The University of Sydney in 2004 and has worked in mixed veterinary practice in Victoria, South Australia, and the UK.  With a particular interest in ruminant health and production, Nick also spent several years with the Mackinnon Project team at The University of Melbourne – focusing on farm consultancy and on-farm research – with a particular interest in the practical control of livestock parasites.  Now in industry, Nick has worked extensively on parasiticides, best practice parasite control programs and strategies to protect against the development of resistance.

Synopsis: With increasing resistance to older drench classes used in cattle, including the benzimidazole, levamisole and macrocyclic lactone chemical families, the availability of a new drench class is much needed.

Monepantel is a member of the amino-acetonitrile derivative (AAD or ‘orange’) family of anthelmintics, the first new drench class to be registered for the broad-spectrum control of worms in cattle in Australia in nearly 40 years!
