Overview: How to approach investigation of suboptimal reproductive performance in beef and dairy herds is a common challenge for cattle veterinarians.
This workshop will introduce participants to the newly developed “Guidelines for the investigation of reproductive problems in beef and dairy herds” developed by a panel consisting of Em. Prof. Michael McGowan, Assoc. Prof. John House, Dr Mark Hazelton, Dr Craig Wood and Dr Lee Taylor.
You’ll walk away understanding how to more effectively use data generated during pregnancy testing jobs on beef and dairy farms, and how to use the benchmarks and checklists in the new guidelines to determine whether a problem exists, define the problem and investigate the cause(s), including the collection and interpretation of appropriate diagnostic samples.
8:30-10:00am: Introducing the guidelines, understanding performance metrics and defining your objectives for starting an investigation of lower than expected reproductive performance.
10:30-12:00pm: Routine pregnancy testing to herd reproduction consultancy. How do we go about implementing an investigation? Collecting the data crush-side and interpreting the data. Please bring your PC’s to this session.
