The workshop will give you hands on experience in equine embryo transfer, examination of the pregnant broodmare as well as an update on advanced reproductive techniques and diagnostics for the problem broodmare.

Who you will learn from 

Dr Margo Macpherson 

Margo is a diplomate of the American College of Theriogenologists, a Professor Emeritus at the University of Florida and is our International keynote speaker for the Bain Fallon memorial lectures for 2025. She is interested in all aspects of equine reproduction but has a special interest in problems affecting late pregnancy in the mare, most notably placentitis. Dr. Macpherson is dedicated to advancing equine veterinary medicine and supporting veterinarians as they grow their own passion for the profession. 

Dr Jennifer Clulow 

Jen is a registered specialist in Veterinary reproduction and an Associate Professor in Theriogenology at Charles Sturt University.  Jen has extensive experience working in North America, Europe and Australia, both in private reproductive practice and academia. Her interests lie in the management of tricky stallions and mares, including the incorporation of assisted reproductive techniques to troubleshoot problems. Jen is a passionate educator of enthusiastic equine veterinarians. 

Dr Joan Carrick 

Joan is a registered specialist in Equine Internal Medicine and is a specialist consultant in the management of high-risk pregnant mares. She has a wealth of experience and is passionate about preventing problem pregnancies.  Joan has been pivotal in the production of the equine fetal and placental postmortem guide for veterinarians available through the AVA.  By gaining valuable knowledge about the causes of equine fetal loss in Australia, Dr Carrick wants to help equine veterinarians identify and manage problem pregnancies in clinical practice. 

Dr Chelsie Burden 

Chelsie is a diplomate of the American College of Theriogenologists and an experienced equine reproduction veterinarian.  Chelsie is currently the principal veterinarian for a large thoroughbred stud in Victoria but also brings an extensive knowledge in artificial reproductive techniques having managed several large embryo transfer programs.  Chelise comes to us following a breeding season at Colorado State University where she has been a clinical instructor at the Equine Reproductive Laboratory training veterinary students and residents in Theriogenology. 

Anna Blishen 

Anna has almost 25 years of experience in veterinary pathology and is the laboratory supervisor for Scone Equine Hospital.  Anna is a graduate in medical laboratory science and is currently undertaking a post graduate degree in public health (One Health). Anna completed the ACIPC Foundations of Infection Prevention and Control in 2022 and has recently completed a Graduate Certificate in Workplace Health and Safety (WHS).  Anna is passionate about achieving meaningful laboratory results and applying them to the clinical setting.
