In collaboration with the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists AVA will be running a Research stream on Wednesday 20 May 2026.
The AVA Conference Program Committee has accepted abstract submissions to present research as part of the AVA Conference Research stream. The abstracts can be recent research, clinical projects, or a case series or individual case report involving any aspect of veterinary science.
AVA will also be holding its popular Research Poster Competition providing and opportunity for veterinarians and researchers to gain recognition for their research or clinical work.

2026 poster competition - now open for submissions
Poster submissions are now open and will close at midnight on Monday 20 April 2026.
The 2026 AVA Conference will include the AVA Poster Competition, offering veterinarians, researchers and students the opportunity to showcase their research or clinical work, gain professional recognition, and be eligible for a prize. Research Poster Abstracts will be considered for four awards:
• Young Researcher Prize (student or graduate less than 3 years): $500
• Best overall poster:
o First Prize: $600
o Second Prize: $250
o Third Prize: $150
Submissions close Monday 20 April 2026.
Posters must focus on research, clinical case reports or case series in veterinary science that reflect cutting‑edge science or an advancement of knowledge.
At least one author must be an AVA member.
Posters previously presented at other conferences (including international conferences) within the past three years are welcome.
The committee will notify applicants after submissions close.
Poster format: Maximum size B0 – 1000 mm (W) × 1414 mm (H)
research prizes
The AVA is offering two $5,000 prizes for the best research presentation. The prizes will be awarded at the 2026 AVA Conference at the Awards Gala Dinner on Wednesday 20 May, 2026 at the BCEC.
Research Presentation Abstracts that meet the above criteria and are accepted for presentation will be competing for two $5,000 prizes.
- One prize will be available to AVA members with specialist qualifications or higher degree holders (Masters and PhD).
- The second prize will be available to AVA members who are interns, residents and generalist clinicians.
