Fur, Flora & Filtration; trust your gut; respect your kidneys | Dr Lisa Singer

The kidneys and the gut microbiome in dogs and cats are closely interconnected, with changes in kidney function influencing gut health and vice versa. In chronic kidney disease (CKD), uraemic toxins disrupt gut health, contributing to inflammation and further kidney damage. Conversely, chronic gastrointestinal (GI) diseases can worsen kidney health by enabling translocation of harmful substances and decreasing absorption of kidney-protective nutrients, leading to accumulation of toxins normally cleared by the kidneys. The session will cover real clinical cases and provide the latest updates on managing both chronic GI and renal diseases to promote better outcomes for pets.
