ABOUT
Unusual Pet and Avian Veterinarians

The Unusual Pet and Avian Veterinarians (UPAV) group fosters discussion on the medicine and surgery of non-traditional companion animals including reptiles, birds, turtles, amphibians, native Australian mammals, rabbits, guinea pigs, rodents, ferrets, fish and even insects or arachnids such as tarantulas.

As licensing laws and lifestyles evolve, many households are choosing pets beyond dogs and cats. This shift has led to a growing demand for veterinarians who are confident and capable in treating species not typically covered in undergraduate training.

UPAV plays a vital role in supporting professional development, strengthening peer connections, and providing leadership in advancing the field of avian, exotic, and unusual pet veterinary practice.
