Vladimir Jekl

Vladimír Jekl graduated from the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Brno (VETUNI Brno), Czech Republic, in 2002. In 2006, he obtained a PhD in dentistry of exotic companion mammals. He has devoted his professional career exclusively to exotic animal medicine and has been an EBVS® European Recognised Specialist in Small Mammal Medicine and Surgery since 2009. In 2016, he was the Associate Professor at VETUNI Brno. Since 2017, he has been the co-owner of the Jekl & Hauptman Veterinary Clinic, a referral center dedicated exclusively to exotic companion mammals. He is also affiliated with the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy at VETUNI Brno.
 
Dr Jekl has delivered numerous lectures and workshops as an invited speaker throughout Europe and has also lectured in the United States and Asia. He is the author or co-author of more than 450 publications in national and international journals and books, including chapters in major reference texts such as the BSAVA Manuals, Ferrets, Rabbits, and Rodents: Clinical Medicine and Surgery (4th ed.), Practical Veterinary Dental Radiography, BSAVA Manual of Rodents and Ferrets, BSAVA Manual of Rabbit Surgery, Dentistry and Imaging, BSAVA Manual of Guinea Pigs and Small Mammal Medicine (in Czech); and Clinical Toxicology (in Czech). He has served as editor of several issues of Veterinary Clinics of North America: Exotic Animal Practice, including Respiratory Medicine, Reproductive Medicine, and Oral Cavity Diseases.
 
UPAV plays a vital role in supporting professional development, strengthening peer connections, and providing leadership in advancing the field of avian, exotic, and unusual pet veterinary practice.
 
He is the principal tutor for the EVDS Small Mammal Dentistry course and a co-tutor for the ESAVS Small Mammal Imaging and Internal Medicine course. He is currently the president of the Czech Veterinary Association of Exotic Companion Mammals. His main professional interests include dental disease, internal medicine, diagnostic imaging, and soft tissue surgery in small mammals.
