Research Abstracts

The AVA Conference will be held from 27 - 31 May 2024 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. The conference theme is ‘Living Well’ which reflects the aims for our patients and ourselves when we practice veterinary science and medicine. The conference will present a range of topics focused on improving the quality of life for animals with chronic conditions and enhancing veterinary practice to help veterinary professionals achieve longevity and satisfaction in their careers and life.

 

The AVA Conference Program Committee is accepting abstracts to present research as part of the conference program. The abstracts can be recent research, clinical projects, or a case series or individual case report involving any aspect of veterinary science. The AVA is offering two $5,000 prizes for the best research presentation. One prize will be offered for veterinarians with specialist qualifications or higher degree holders (Masters and PhD)  and another for interns, residents and generalist clinicians. To be eligible to win one of the prizes the presenting author must be an AVA member.

 

PLEASE NOTE: Abstract submissions for the 2024 AVA Conference close on Monday 11 December 2023.

 

Submitted abstracts will have their authorship blinded and be peer-reviewed by a panel appointed by the AVA. All abstract submissions will be subject to review. 

Authors should ensure that the following criteria are met in their abstract submission:

 

  1. The topic is relevant veterinary clinical practice and scientifically sound. Please ensure you have read the topic categories before submitting an abstract
  2. The subject matter is original or innovative
  3. The paper must add to the knowledge-base of the discipline
  4. Authors will be notified via email if successful by mid-January 2024

AVA Conference Poster Competition 2024

The 2024 AVA Conference will hold a 'AVA Poster Competition' to provide an opportunity for veterinarians and researchers to gain recognition for their research or clinical work, build their professional profile and be eligible to win a prize. Applications close Friday 12 April 2024.

Criteria:
 

  1. Posters must focus on research, clinic case reports or case series in veterinary science reflecting cutting edge science or an advancement of knowledge
  2. At least one of the authors must be an AVA member
  3. Posters that have been presented at other conferences (especially international conferences) within the previous three years are encouraged
  4. The committee will respond to you after applications have closed on 12 April 2024
  5. Poster format:  No larger than ‘B0’ 1000mm (W) x 1414mm (H)
  6. Submit entry online collectively known as an Eligible Entry
