Welcome to the 2024 AVA Conference

The new look AVA Conference features a streamlined format, a renewed focus on research, environmentally sustainable video proceedings and so much more. The AVA is listening to members and stakeholders and the conference redesign has incorporated both delegate and sponsor feedback.

We are collaborating with the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVS) to bring you the most up to date veterinary research with the inaugural AVA Conference Research Day. The THRIVE Veterinary Wellness Symposium was such a success last year it will be extended to a full day of thought-provoking wellness topics based on the program’s 3 pillars - Promote, Prevent and Protect. These events will be held on Monday 27 May and our Special Interest Groups will hold workshops on Friday 31 May.

The 2024 AVA Conference theme is ‘Living Well’. The scientific program will run from Tuesday 28 to Thursday 30 May, with the topic-based program focussing on improving the quality of life for animals with chronic conditions and enhancing veterinary practice to help veterinary professionals achieve longevity and satisfaction in their careers and life.

Conference highlights

The first plenary session will be hosted by airline pilot turned clinical psychologist, Dr Rebecca Ray, who will examine how we can set boundaries in our professional and private lives. Also, the Veterinary Surgeons Board is back by popular demand, this time as a plenary session. The Board will discuss how recent changes will impact your practice and answer your burning questions. The Ben Cunneen Memorial Plenary will be a thought-provoking session by Dr Robyn Alders AO, an internationally recognised expert in food security and One Health.

Why attend?

The AVA Conference is our premier event. It features 7 streams covering small animal, large animals and wildlife as well as business, education, technical and personal growth topics, all of which earn you CPD points.

The conference also has the largest collection of sponsors and exhibitors on our event calendar. Come and see the latest in products and innovations in the exhibition and at our ever-popular sponsored breakfast sessions.

But it’s not all about learning – the AVA Conference provides an opportunity to reconnect with old colleagues and meet new people. Come along to one (or more) of the many social functions throughout the week, from university alumni dinners, to special interest group (SIG) functions where you can get together with like-minded people.

If you need another reason to come, profits from the conference support AVA activities including the extensive advocacy work we do on behalf of veterinary professionals, so by attending the conference you’re investing in the profession.
