The THRIVE Wellness Symposium will inspire and empower you to improve wellbeing and foster positive change in the workplace. We will share insights on embracing vulnerability, nurturing team trust and discuss how to have a healthy performance culture but not at the expense of your wellbeing. Our THRIVE Wellness Symposium is about community; re-establishing connections and giving you the permission to invest in yourself.

10.50-11.50	Choosing Courage over Comfort (P1) - Judith Krause During this interactive presentation, let’s pull on our brave boots and explore actionable skills/techniques to embrace: Rumbling with vulnerability – definition, physics, myths and paradoxes Enhancing self-awareness, self-care and effective teamwork within a psychologically safe environment, because who we are is how we lead Courage is contagious - identifying our armour, navigating our fear and the barriers to courage. What is holding us back?

1.30-3.30	Choosing Courage over Comfort (P2) - Judith Krause Rumbling with Shame – scarcity culture, comparison, perfectionism and shame in the workplace Rumbling with Trust - through vulnerability and the BRAVING acronym Rising Strong - embracing the power of connection, courage, compassion and the benefits of self-compassion (tender and fierce) to foster resilience and ease Mindful Practice
	Interactive workshop (P1) - What makes a team safe? Building on Judith Kraus's sessions on self-compassion and team trust, the Interactive Workshops allow participants to turn their attention to their workplaces and learn how to contribute effectively to building psychological safety in veterinary teams. The Interactive Workshops include expert panelists and those with lived and living experiences who will share their insights and best practice examples across the profession. This will be followed by a series of mini-workshops that allow participants to share, plan, and prepare to take great ideas back to their workplaces to create positive change.

	Building a "healthy" performance culture-a performance based wellbeing approach - Carly Webster We cannot expect people to have an aspiration mindset & perform at their best at work if they are not coping. In this session attendees will learn about the relationship between work, wellbeing & performance and how creating a ‘healthy’ performance culture in the veterinary profession leads to greater psychological wellbeing and proactive performance. The role of a holistic human-centred leadership approach will be highlighted as a key factor in creating a culture of ‘good stress’ in the veterinary environment.

Our Speakers

Judith Krause

As a Clinical & Mental Health Social Worker, Fertility Counsellor, & Workplace Mindful Leader, Judith Krause supports client exploration of unique strategic initiatives to aid authentic transitions. She encourages courageous conversations needed for effective relationships & embraces the benefits of empathy, vulnerability, connection & shame resilience.
With extensive experience, Judith integrates a myriad of modalities to focus on personal values, self-compassion, emotional well-being & workplace psychological safety.
An accomplished facilitator, Judith is a Certified Facilitator of Dare to Lead™, The Daring Way™ & Mindful Self-Compassion. She leads the Asia-Pacific region for Dr Brené Brown’s research curriculum, The Daring Way™.

Carly Webster

Carly is a highly skilled workplace mental health specialist with extensive experience in the strategic development and execution of health and wellbeing initiatives across a range of industries with workplaces of varied sizes. She has worked in health, safety, and wellbeing for over 12 years and has expertise in practically applying Behavioural Science and Motivational Interactions within organisations.

Carly partners with organisations to collaboratively identify, implement and evaluate customer-centric, evidence-based programs focused on creating psychologically safe and healthy environments.

Rosie Overfield

Rosie is an experienced facilitator, counsellor, HR advisor, and workplace wellbeing consultant. She has a strong focus on mentally healthy workplace design, leadership, and clinical communication to develop exceptional veterinary teams. Rosie is a nationally registered counsellor with a Bachelor of Communication, a Graduate Diploma of Counselling, GAICD, and a Master of Human Resources and Organisational Development. Rosie is also a veterinary practice owner and a yoga & mindfulness teacher, giving her a unique perspective and diverse skillset to positively contribute to the AVA’s Veterinary Wellness Steering Group.

Dr Diana Barker

Diana is an experienced small animal surgeon and the managing director of a practice group in Melbourne’s inner suburbs employing more than 60 staff. She holds an Executive MBA from the Monash Business School and obtained her Membership with Australia New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in small animal surgery. Diana has represented the profession at both regional and state level including roles with the Melbourne Metropolitan Practitioners Branch and the Victorian AVA Division, as well as being an active member of the AVA’s Veterinary Business Group and the Chair of the Veterinary Wellness Steering Group.
